What are the responsibilities?
As a Automation Specialist (Power Innovation), you will:
- Lead automation support for commissioning, startup, and turnover activities across power and energy projects.
- Support the control mechanisms of power generation units by configuring, testing, troubleshooting, and optimizing automation and control systems.
- Develop and execute commissioning procedures, testing protocols, and system validation plans.
- Coordinate factory and site acceptance testing while ensuring successful system integration and project readiness.
- Troubleshoot PLC, DCS, SCADA, and HMI systems during energization and startup to resolve technical issues.
- Collaborate with engineering, construction, operations, and OEM partners to ensure systems meet design and operational expectations.
- Review project risks, identify performance improvements, and implement solutions that enhance reliability and commissioning efficiency.
- Maintain commissioning documentation, turnover packages, automation standards, and configuration management records.
- Support cybersecurity updates, hardware lifecycle activities, operator training, and continuous process improvements.
What are the requirements?
- High School Diploma or GED with 8+ years of experience in power generation, energy infrastructure, commissioning, or industrial automation.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related discipline preferred.
- Strong knowledge of PLCs, DCS, SCADA systems, HMI interfaces, and industrial communication protocols such as Modbus, DNP3, and IEC 61850.
- Experience supporting automation and control systems for power generation equipment or power generation units is preferred
- Experience with commissioning processes, system turnover documentation, FAT/SAT activities, and field troubleshooting.
- Familiarity with industry standards and safe work practices, including NFPA 70E, IEEE, and NERC (where applicable).
- Experience with enterprise automation platforms for configuration management, backups, version control, and compliance.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills with a strong commitment to safety.
- Ability to work in physically demanding environments, including climbing, lifting up to 50 lbs., and working in varying weather conditions.
