What is the position?
The Automation Specialist (Power Innovation) is responsible for supporting the commissioning, startup, and operational readiness of power and energy infrastructure through advanced automation expertise. This role partners with engineering, construction, operations, and equipment manufacturers to ensure automation systems are commissioned safely, perform reliably, and meet project and operational requirements.

What are the responsibilities?
As a Automation Specialist (Power Innovation), you will:
  • Lead automation support for commissioning, startup, and turnover activities across power and energy projects.
  • Support the control mechanisms of power generation units by configuring, testing, troubleshooting, and optimizing automation and control systems.
  • Develop and execute commissioning procedures, testing protocols, and system validation plans.
  • Coordinate factory and site acceptance testing while ensuring successful system integration and project readiness.
  • Troubleshoot PLC, DCS, SCADA, and HMI systems during energization and startup to resolve technical issues.
  • Collaborate with engineering, construction, operations, and OEM partners to ensure systems meet design and operational expectations.
  • Review project risks, identify performance improvements, and implement solutions that enhance reliability and commissioning efficiency.
  • Maintain commissioning documentation, turnover packages, automation standards, and configuration management records.
  • Support cybersecurity updates, hardware lifecycle activities, operator training, and continuous process improvements.

What are the requirements?
  • High School Diploma or GED with 8+ years of experience in power generation, energy infrastructure, commissioning, or industrial automation.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related discipline preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of PLCs, DCS, SCADA systems, HMI interfaces, and industrial communication protocols such as Modbus, DNP3, and IEC 61850.
  • Experience supporting automation and control systems for power generation equipment or power generation units is preferred
  • Experience with commissioning processes, system turnover documentation, FAT/SAT activities, and field troubleshooting.
  • Familiarity with industry standards and safe work practices, including NFPA 70E, IEEE, and NERC (where applicable).
  • Experience with enterprise automation platforms for configuration management, backups, version control, and compliance.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills with a strong commitment to safety.
  • Ability to work in physically demanding environments, including climbing, lifting up to 50 lbs., and working in varying weather conditions.
